PDS activities

It is an absolute priority for us to support and develop tomorrow's global research leaders and as such we strive to create an environment that allows award holders to excel and reach their full potential.

A bespoke suite of training activities has been developed for all Presidential Scholars which focus around the University's three core goals:

  1. World-class research
  2. Outstanding learning and student experience
  3. Social responsibility

These activities will include advanced training in areas such as leadership, self-awareness, collaboration, public engagement, publication, sustainability and commercialisation.

Award holders also have the opportunity to manage initiatives funded by the University, giving our postgraduate researchers (PGRs) experience to gain valuable transferable skills in planning, organisation, negotiation and collaboration. One example is ‘Anything but Research’, where committee members manage and coordinate applications to fund PGR students’ non-research ideas with the aim of improving the overall PGR experience.

Additionally the Postgraduate Summer Research Showcase is organised by PDS award holders, the event encourages postgraduate researchers across the University to promote their research on posters, providing them with opportunities disseminate their research to a wider audience and build interdisciplinary connections.
